It’s an important anniversary year for the remarkable Royal National Lifeboat Institution and we are celebrating their immeasurable gift to our communities through lives they have saved at sea over the last 200 years. Celebrating, and we hope, raising some funds for their vital work. Even in landlocked Winchester there’s a dedicated band of volunteers supporting the RNLI and they will be with us at our summer concert. As you might expect, there are lots of watery songs on the concert programme. We go down to the river to pray and sing prayers on the ocean for mariners and those who rescue them. There will be songs of love, separation, tragedy and rescue. But you can get a little wrinkly if you stay in the water all evening, so we’re on land for part of the time with songs that celebrate the seasons. There’ll be a few springtime pieces before Robbie Burns takes us from summer to autumn. And for the last of the seasons, an early English winter ode.
We hope you can join us St Paul’s. It’s a Victorian church with a glorious acoustic. A recent makeover has created modern facilities in an historic building and we’re looking forward to performing there.
