SDX 46: Gen AI and Exploring Multiple Futures
"There is tremendous apprehension about the potential of generative AI - technologies that can create new content such as audio, text, images, and video - to replace people in many jobs. But one of the biggest opportunities generative AI offers to business and governments is to augment human creativity and overcome the challenges of democratizing innovation." -
In August 2023, HBR wrote an article sharing the opportunities that generative AI presents to democratize creativity and innovation. We will explore the HBR article and put the proposed ideas into practice alongside 2 variations of an analog method used for divergent thinking to explore possible futures, the Thing from the Future. The Thing From The Future is an award-winning imagination game published by Situation Lab.
Come join us as we explore divergent thinking practices and test where AI can enhance and replicate existing methods.
- Doors will open at 12:30 pm for mingling and getting settled with the event starting promptly at 1 pm.
- This is not a technical session on AI. No technical or previous experience is required!
- Please bring a device (phone or laptop) as we may ask participants to use an AI platform like ChatGPT, Midjourney, etc. You will need an email address to sign up for some of these websites.
There is a small charge for this event to help us cover the costs associated with hosting. We try our best to keep the cost of events minimal and we never want money to be a barrier for folks. If the ticket price doesn’t work for you, please contact us in confidence and let us know at [email protected].
The event will be held at Action lab, #210 10408 124 st. You can't see Action Lab from the street but the YWCA is located on the bottom floor of the building and can be a helpful signal that you have found the right spot! The Action Lab is on the second floor of the building to the left as you exit the elevators.
Parking: There is limited parking available around the Action Lab. There is some free street parking in the surrounding neighborhoods. Pay parking on the street is available as well as an Impark lot on the same block. There is not accessible parking nearby but there is a loading zone in the front of the building that can be used for drop offs and pick-ups. A map of parking in the area can be downloaded from the "Important Information Section" on this page.
Front Entrance: There is a barrier free entrance into the building with automatic doors activated by push buttons. There is a curb cut available on the north and south corners of the sidewalk leading up to the front entrance.
Elevator Access: There are two elevators located directly in front of you as you enter the building. They are small but can accommodate a typical power wheelchair. Upon entering the elevator, the second floor button must be selected.
Washroom Access: There is a barrier free, all gender washroom located next to the Action Lab.
Questions about accessibility? No problem! Email us at [email protected].
