Unleash your inner creative and join us to create a mechanical Flapping Butterfly sculpture. Join us for a night of crafting fun surrounded by like minded individuals and take home a beautiful, custom-made sculpture. No experience needed - this is the perfect night out for all fun-loving individuals wanting to create something as unique as they are!
This Sculptures & Sips workshop is inspired by the iconic Queensland butterfly species that bring beauty and colour to our ecosystems - Queensland’s tourism icon the Ulysses Butterfly, and two species endemic to Queensland the Australian Red Lacewing and the Cairns Birdwing.
Participants can mix-and-match the aesthetic elements of their butterfly to create a unique mechanical masterpiece.Observe the components of your creation being cut out on the laser cutter, seeing first-hand how laser-cutting technologies are used to build the puppets and props for stage productions. Under the guidance of Dead Puppet Society’s artisans at our Fabrication Workshop, you will assemble your butterfly, and construct the mechanism to make it move. Gain an insight into the basic principles of puppet design, and the magic and mechanisms that bring your butterfly to life.
