Throughout history, we look at how sculpture has been positioned in the landscape & why landscape itself has became a medium for sculpture.
About this Event

Starting in pre-history and ending today, this lecture looks at how sculpture has been positioned in the landscape and why in the 20th Century landscape itself became a medium for sculpture. It is quite hard to find evidence of a sculpture placed in the middle of nowhere, as it was an urban phenomena. But examples of tombs and mausoleums do exist in remote spots. However, as the countryside was made safe from bandits and lawlessness and tourism began, sculpture was positioned in more lonely spots. David examines why and how the land itself has and continues to inspire sculptors.
