About this Event
For more than forty years, Patty Livingston and her late husband, the artist Tom Gottsleben, transformed an abandoned bluestone quarry into a magical landscape set against a backdrop of breathtaking Catskill Mountain Views. Gottsleben's stone and crystal sculptures are sited throughout the property: on the rolling lawn of the sculpture field, in lush ornamental gardens, and surrounded by stone landscaping walls. The largest of those sculptures is the five-story Spiral House, which happened to be Tom and Patty’s home.
Gottsleben's art was inspired by nature's art — the fundamental patterns of life, the stone that resulted from eons of geological evolution, and natural forms such as clouds, branches, and garlic scapes. The intersection of art and nature that informed the creation of the property also informs the mission of our nonprofit organization: to enable visitors to experience a sense of wonder in art and in nature, and to create programming that supports and transforms the way we see and care for the Earth.
Patty will be joined by Ronnie Shushan, executive director of the Park and co-author with Tom and Patty of the book, The Spiral House; and by Andrea Barrist Stern, part of the Park leadership team and head gardener at the Spiral House since 2009.
Spiral House Park is a project of the Open Space Institute, Inc., a nonprofit public charity exempt from federal income tax under Sections 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code.
