Observe and mimic the form of any chosen critter with a detailed clay sculpture! Work with natural terracotta air dry clay and learn sculpture techniques to help with shape, anatomy, and gesture. Students should come with multiple reference images of their favorite animal to create their bust or full body figure. Expect to study the movement, personality, and details of the figure and imprint that onto the clay.Instructor Bio: Sea Star (they, she, he) is a mixed media sculptor from Philadelphia. Clay, trash, glass, plastic, and paper are a few of the materials you will find in Sea’s art that visually echoes the natural environment around them. Sea has taught at The Clay Studio, Cassie’s Craft Coven, Haystack Mountain School of Craft, and Pocosin School of Art. They earned a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2022 and are currently learning about sustainable, affordable housing in Moab.
All materials are provided, participants will be asked to provide a photo of their pet/animal a week before the class.
Any student above 13 is welcome to enroll in the class, children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Class will be held in the Stage Room and will run from 6-9pm.
