Movie Synopsis:
As a hurricane threatens the city of Santo Domingo, the M**der of a young poet and drug dealer intertwines with the lives of a young woman from high society, an alcoholic police officer, and a Drag Queen. "CANDELA" offers us a fascinating journey through the mysteries of the capital of the Dominican Republic, revealing to us a dark, machista, classist, and homophobic city but also full of poetry and beauty. A very personal approach to revisiting the crime genre allows these three realities and three imaginaries to compose a single film, in the same way that they compose a single city.
"An exotic Caribbean thriller", Dennis Shwartz, Movie Review
"A poetic allegory wrapped around an ordinary mystery thriller, and one of the best films ever to come out of the Dominican Republic", Roger Moore, Movie Nation
"A thriller that shows both the beauty of the pain of certain corners of Dominican life, the terrible power of the rich, and the burden on teh marginalized". Shelag Rowan-Legg, Screen Anarchy
