September 8-13 is Hispanic Serving Insitutions week. Join us for a screening of "Unbroken Sky" with special guest: Professor Francisco Jiménez at Hartnell College! September 10, 2025.

Two showing of the film will take place, followed by a Question and Answers session with Professor Jimenez and the filmmakers.

Author and educator, Francisco Jiménez emigrated from Tlaquepaque, Mexico to California and as a child worked alongside his parents in the fields of California. He received his MA and Ph.D. from Columbia University and is currently Professor Emeritus in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at Santa Clara University. His work has been recognized by the United States Congress, the U.S. Department of Education, the California State Senate and the Governor and Minister of Culture of the State of Jalisco. He has won several national literary awards, including the John Steinbeck Award, the Boston Globe- Horn Book Award, the Américas Award, the Pura Belpré Honor, and the Tomás Rivera Book Award among others. His four-book series—The Circuit, Breaking Through, Reaching Out, Taking Hold--has been included in the American Library Association Booklist's 50 Best Young Adult Books of All Time.

Autor y educador, Francisco Jiménez emigró de Tlaquepaque, México a California y, cuando era niño, trabajó junto a sus padres en los campos agrícolas de California. Obtuvo su maestría y doctorado en la Universidad de Columbia y actualmente es Profesor Emérito en el Departamento de Lenguas y Literaturas Modernas de la Universidad de Santa Clara. Su trabajo ha sido reconocido por el Congreso de los Estados Unidos, el Departamento de Educación de los Estados Unidos, el Senado del Estado de California, así como por el Gobernador y el Ministro de Cultura del Estado de Jalisco. Ha recibido varios premios literarios nacionales, entre ellos el Premio John Steinbeck, el Boston Globe–Horn Book Award, el Premio Américas, el reconocimiento de honor Pura Belpré y el Premio Literario Tomás Rivera, entre otros.
