Double Short Film Screening & Panel Discussion📍 Lucky Bay Brewing, Esperance
Join us in Esperance for a special double short film screening and conversation exploring the cultural, ecological and practical realities of living with Dingoes on Country.
The evening features a screening of Moort: Calling Dingo Back to Country, followed by Wooleen: Utilising Dingoes as a Management Tool, and a panel discussion.
Moort: Calling Dingo Back to Country
Moort is a powerful short film that explores the deep cultural, spiritual and familial relationship between First Nations people and the Dingo. Across south-west Western Australia, moort means family - and that is what Dingo is: kin.
The film highlights the enduring relationship between Cultural Custodians and Australia’s only wild canid, while also confronting the loss felt in places where Dingoes have been eradicated through widespread killing programs. Even where Dingoes are physically absent, they remain present in Songlines, stories and spirit - and the call for their return continues to grow.
As global attitudes shift toward recognising the vital role of predators in healthy ecosystems, Moort invites audiences to reflect on Australia’s own path forward, and what respect, responsibility and coexistence might look like for generations to come.
Wooleen: Utilising Dingoes as a Management Tool
Following Moort, the screening continues with Wooleen: Utilising Dingoes as a Management Tool, part of the Landholders for Dingoes film series.
Set on Wooleen Station in Western Australia, the film offers a striking real-world example of how retaining Dingoes in the landscape can help restore ecological balance, reduce overgrazing, and support healthier Country - while also delivering benefits for pastoral operations. It presents a practical perspective on coexistence with apex predators in fragile environments.
Panel Discussion + Audience Q&A
After the screenings, stay for a panel discussion and audience Q&A exploring the cultural, ecological and on-ground realities of Dingoes on Country.
