About this Event
Katie Lindsay has spent the last year considering what it means to be a singer-songwriter, and how the roles of composer, storyteller, and performer interact and overlap when a writer brings their songs to life onstage. Lindsay’s performance is an experiment in communication, seeing how far narratives can be pushed into abstraction and metaphor while still maintaining their emotional message and connection to the audience. The goal of Lindsay’s performance is to bring the audience into an open and vulnerable place, where they can sense and engage in the emotions that her songs bring without the comforting structure of clear narratives associated with folk/Americana style songs – pure poetry set to boldly enigmatic musical backdrops. The performance is a culmination of Katie’s search for her voice as a writer, with mysterious and playful fingerpicked guitar, wistful and clear piano pieces, deep synth rumbles and soaring vocals.
Katiie Lindsay is an obsessively prolific artist based in Glasgow. Her music is "outrageously intimate", blending together romantic vocal ballads with shoegaze instrumentals in her band live shows, and performing intricately crafted and hauntingly intimate guitar and piano pieces with strikingly vulnerable lyricism in solo settings. Compared repeatedly to legendary songwriter Jeff Buckley, Lindsay's discography continuously surprises and charms listeners, leading audiences through dramatic soundscapes and quiet moments of emotion with a conspiratorial air.
