Grand Canyon Council (GCC) an independent non-profit organization chartered by Scouting America in Arizona will host its 2024 Trail to Leadership Award Luncheon on Monday Sept. 23. Co-chairs of the luncheon Dr. Michael M. Crow president of Arizona State University and Distinguished Eagle Scout award recipient and Karrin Taylor Robson founder and president of Arizona Strategies are excited to honor local businessman Tony Astorga with the Trail to Leadership Award for his record of business and community leadership.
The Trail of Leadership Award is a prestigious recognition presented to individuals who embody the core values of the Scouts as expressed in the Scout Oath Law and motto. It is a testament to an individual’s commitment to the betterment of their community and their unwavering dedication to the principles of Scouting.
Robson will give opening remarks at the luncheon; Crow will deliver a keynote address about Scouting’s impact on his life and the continued importance of Scouting for today’s youth.
Astorga was selected because of his numerous contributions to the Phoenix area; not only through his leadership with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona (BCBSAZ) – serving 23 years as the senior vice president and chief financial officer but also his involvement on boards focused on Hispanic advocacy and the expansion of commerce and business. Astorga currently is a member on the board of directors for the Arizona Commerce Authority Arizona Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (Emeritus) Banner Health Foundation Catholic Charities (Emeritus) Equality Health Foundation GlobalMed TransMed7 and Ottawa University.
