Here is what you can expect at the event:
We are going to have so much fun at the hunt!
First and foremost, plan to have fun and support Scouting....that is why we are there to begin with...this is a fundraiser to support Scouting so we can impact the lives of our community's youth and prepare them for their future. And....you get to enjoy a kid free night and have fun :) We will make between $15,000 and $20,000 on this event thanks to your support! That goes a long way to providing Scouting programs to over 2,000 youth annually.
THE EVENT: We will have a DJ, yard games, smores, campfires, food trucks, a few special games (for a small fee), a photo booth, the Easter Bunny, a costume contest, gun raffle, and of course the hunt itself. There will be a merch area set up with some event merch, glow sticks, hand warmers, flashlights in case you forgot yours, etc. Stop by! The merch booth and smores are covered by a local Scout Troop as a way to earn service hours and assist with the event. They are direct beneficiaries of the money we raise at the event.
WEATHER: We have no control over the weather, dress appropriately. There is a chance you will get wet if there is rain in the days leading up to the event especially if you take the trail. It is April in Indiana, it could be 65 degrees, it could be 32 degrees, plan/dress accordingly.
PARKING: You will park at Faith Church and be shuttled into camp by volunteer bus drivers from Tippecanoe School Corp. A bus host will rider with you and answer any questions you have.
ARRIVAL AT CAMP: Once you get to camp you will get checked in and be assigned a # for your raffle tickets and you will get the egg limit for the night as well. You will also get a small allotment of raffle tickets just for coming, this is just in case you don't find any eggs.
EGG LIMIT: We take the amount of eggs and divide by the amount of people at the event to determine the egg limit for the hunt. There is no way for us to manage/enforce that rule at night, in the dark, for 1000+ people, without extending the night by 2 hours and enforcing a TSA check line style check in when the hunting is over (no one like TSA lines)...if everyone plays by the rules, everyone will have a good time. Trust us when we say we have thought about every way possible to manage/enforce this and all of them end with us finishing the event at midnight and that is not acceptable. Just follow the rules and have fun and everyone will have an enjoyable experience. Remember though, if you see someone with what appears to be more than the allotted amount they could be A)breaking the rule or B)they could be collecting all of the eggs for their party..let's not make assumptions, let's just follow the rules :)
WHAT IS IN THE EGGS: Speaking of eggs. Every egg will have a ticket in it. If we just put tickets in the winning eggs, you'd open the egg, find or not find a ticket and then the egg becomes trash. THIS HAPPENED A FEW YEARS BACK. This is the same reason we don't put candy in them. We did that a few years ago and the trash was a nightmare. So now we put tickets in all of them! You will not know if that ticket is a winner until you get done hunting and check the gathering spaces for the signs that have the winning designs on them. Those signs don't go out until you go hunt! There are 50,000 eggs with 1,000 tickets of 50 different images. Some will be winners, some won't. Many of the images are the same but the color of the image is different (think red eagle vs blue eagle)...both are eagles but maybe only the blue wins a prize OR maybe the royal blue wins a prize but the navy blue doesn't. If your tickets aren't winning tickets, meaning they aren't one of the selected design tickets, you are welcome to drop them in the canoe for the general raffle prizes. These raffle prizes are of higher value than the regular prizes and are typically packages or experiences. You will be assigned a number at check in, you will need to write your assigned number on the back of the tickets before you drop them in the canoe.
EGG FILLING AND DISTRIBUTION: We have a small army that fills the eggs with tickets throughout the year and then another small army that puts them out for the hunt. Some eggs will be "hidden", others will be out in the open for you to find. Dispersing 50,000 of anything takes us several hours to do and we have to do it that morning because of potential weather the night before the hunt. Eggs are hidden in designated areas of camp, check the map. There is no difference between what is on the trail vs the regular part of camp. There are just two ways to get where you are going and that is to look for eggs. Faster people will get out in front of slower people, that is just nature. If everyone follows the egg limit rules, everyone will have an enjoyable time. Just because the terrain on the trail is more difficult, it doesn't mean there are better eggs or prizes there. It just provides alternate entry points to hunting areas with a large group of people. Remember, even the last person to start the marathon has the same chance to finish.
GOLDEN EGGS/TREASURE BOXES/MOOSE: We will also have golden eggs and treasure boxes as additional things to search for. Those prizes are "slightly more special" per se, but mainly just something fun to look for besides the eggs, with a little cooler of a prize than the regular tickets.
This year we will also have 5 plastic moose statues donated by Hunt and Gather Estate Sales, if you find a moose, take it to the Hunt and Gather Estate Sales table and redeem it there for a prize.
PRIZES AND PRIZE REDEMPTION: Once you are done hunting and you determine if you have a winning ticket, you can redeem them in the dining hall. We will have 1000-1500 people (give or take) at the event and we have 50,000 eggs; not everyone is going to win a prize. Prizes are either donated by local businesses or purchased by us with revenue generated from the event. We try to minimize what we have to purchase as it cuts into the profit for the event but typically we invest $3,000-$4,000 into prizes. We are always looking for team members to help us with prize solicitation. The more prizes we can get donated, the more we can give away. Last year we had about 1,500 prizes ranging from a free appetizer at a restaurant or a scoop of ice cream to a big screen tv and a whole bunch of stuff in between!
RAFFLE: We will draw these tickets once we are certain all hunters are back in the gathering space and their tickets are in the canoe. Make sure you put the number that you were assigned at check in on the back of all of your tickets (the ones you got at check in and the ones that you found in the eggs). If you want to bring a pen or marker with you to expedite this you can, otherwise we will have some on site.
OTHER ACTIVITIES: We have a photo booth courtesy of "Treat Your Selfie", FREE smores, yard games, campfires, and all the outdoor smells! Enjoy them all.
LAWN CHAIRS: Feel free to bring a lawn chair if you want. We are not responsible for them while you go hunt but we intend to have a place to stash them while you hunt if need be.
FOOD VENDORS: Food vendors volunteer their time/services to be a part of the event to help us cut down on costs. Not all food trucks do this, many charge a minimum for their service, so we are able to bring the ones that don't charge us. Because of this we don't often select two trucks that offer the same type/style of food. Remember, these are food trucks and not concession stands...they are preparing your order as you place it, they will go as fast as they can. We will have as many options as we can at the event.
FACILITIES: If you have any facility issues (toilet isn't flushing, ran out of paper towels, etc) report that to the nearest person with a light blue event staff vest and they can get it handled for you. Speaking of restrooms, Swan Lavs will have their mobile restroom on site as well, near the food trucks, you are welcome to use that facility or our facility in the gathering space or dining hall.
ANIMALS: Only service animals are allowed at camp and we'd like to know ahead of time if you are bringing one. Please email that to [email protected].
SAFETY: We have a Camp Health Officer on site at the front of the dining hall by the flag poles if you have a medical need. We also have law enforcement on site. Red glow sticks are put out in the hunt zones to denote unsafe/off limits areas. White glow sticks denote a boundary. We have caution tape donating areas to stay out of as well.
This is all for now! More to come as we get closer to the event! Thank you for supporting Scouting and we look forward to seeing you March 28, 2026! If you'd like to become an event sponsor or volunteer, please contact Bryon Haverstick at [email protected].
