About this Event

Co-founded by French guitarist Nicolas Deschatrettes, Manouche have been the ambassadors of gypsy jazz in Belfast and Northern Ireland since 2011. From the early days of busking and open mic nights, to playing at jazz clubs and festivals locally and internationally, they have grown in talent and numbers to become a rare gem on the music scene in Belfast and Northern Ireland.

Gypsy jazz, or jazz manouche in French, originated in France in the 1930s with guitarist Django Reinhardt, violinist Stephane Grappelli, and their Quintette du Hot Club de France. Traditionally played on string instruments, gypsy jazz is strongly inspired by Dixieland jazz and American swing, with influences from the music of Romani people and French popular music, and it has experienced a global revival in the past 20 years.

Manouche are bringing their band Belleville to Scott's Jazz club for the third time with Mateus Chmielewski on guitar, Niall Lynch on violin, Nicolas Deschatrettes on guitar, and Bill Johnston on double bass, and with special guest Matthew Dowie on guitar.
