160 years ago, General William T. Sherman's Army of roughly 60,000 men marched through Scotland County. From March 7-11, 1865 most every resident of Laurinburg and Scotland County and surrounding communities was affected in some way by the passing of this Federal Army. There are many accounts of the march as well as local stories and lore concerning it. Come hear the history and lore of Sherman's march through Scotland County as well as some dramatic representations of women who found their way in the path of the army 160 years ago. This presentation will be given by Mr. Murdoch Morrison (great-grandson of a man whose home and gun factory at Laurel Hill were destroyed by the passing army) and Prof. Bill Caudill, local historian and Director of the Scottish Heritage Center at St. Andrews University - with dramatic presentations by Mrs. Melody Morrison.The event is FREE and open to the public.
