Scottish Graduate School for Arts and Humanities: Welcome Event 2025

As a new PhD student in the arts and humanities, you are automatically a member of SGSAH. To celebrate the start of your study we would like to invite you to our welcome event on Thursday 13th November, 10.30am - 3pm at The Royal Society of Edinburgh.

We are the world's first national graduate school in the arts and humanities and our membership includes seventeen Scottish universities, from the oldest to the newest and including our four art schools and national conservatoire. We cover Scotland's geography from the Highlands and Islands to the Scottish Borders, and we work with a wide range of supporters from the arts, culture, creative & heritage sectors.

Our welcome event is the ideal way for you to begin your PhD. You will find out what SGSAH can offer you through funding opportunities, training events and our internships and artist residencies. You will also have the chance to meet fellow first year PhD researchers from across Scotland, hear from current PhD students who will be demonstrating how SGSAH has helped them and meet us, the SGSAH staff who will be on hand to answer your questions.

This event is hybrid and can be accessed either online or in-person. In-person spots are limited but lunch will be provided & travel expenses from your home HEI will be reimbursed.
In-Person Registration Deadline is November 3rd, 12PM.
