As a prequel to our Pipers Club meeting, St. Andrew Society of Denmark member Neil Smith will give a presentation on Scotland:Why did Scotland vote to stay in the United Kingdom? This presentation will put the formation of the UK into a historical context, before examining what Scotland gained from the union, and why it has come under increasing pressure. We will then look at the 2014 independence referendum, and why the result fell the way it did. We will close by looking at the current position and possibilities for the future.
Neil Smith is a Scottish lawyer. He has followed the Scottish political debate his entire life and wrote his university dissertation on the constitutional setup of the Scottish parliament. In his professional life, Neil co-owns a business advising on inwards investment, and lectures students on finance and leadership.
Free admittance for members of the St. Andrew Society; DKK 20 for non-members. This will also cover participation in the Pipers Club meeting after the talk.
The doors will be open from 17:30, so you may bring some takeaway, if you want to have something to eat before the presentation.
