Join us November 20th for a talk with Senior Archeologist Jerry Lee about the archeological finds at the Mission San Luis. Decades of excavation have uncovered more than 950,000 artifacts offering insight into daily life, trade, religion, and cooperation between the Spanish and Apalachee communities.
Historical Spanish records, combined with archaeological evidence, document how Native American and Spanish customs blended over 50 years. This was seen in shared foods, gardens, medicinal practices, and pottery styles.
The resulting artifacts, such as colonoware blending European and Apalachee designs, reflect the deep cultural fusion that characterized life at Mission San Luis.
