Science Unwrapped, the public STEM outreach program of USU's College of Science, invites inquiring of minds of all ages to participate in science learning fun. Admission is free. Each event begins with a brief science talk following by hands-on learning activities and refreshments. Our Spring 2025 theme is "Celebrate Undergrad Research" in recognition of USU's 2025 "Year of Undergraduate Research."
Friday, April 11, 2025 Speakers: Mathematicians Matt Young, faculty member in USU’s Department of Mathematics and Statistics, and undergraduate researcher Seth Porter, conduct research to define and compute algebraic invariants of knots in a three-dimensional vector space. A knot is an embedding of a circle into a three=dimensional space. A knot invariant is a quantity assigned to a know that remains the same for any other knot that is topologically equivalent to it. Matt and Seth will “untangle” this concept, while explaining the benefits of getting involved in undergraduate research.
Parking is available in the university parking terraces at 700 East 600 North, and 850 East 700 North in Logan. Parking is FREE for Science Unwrapped guests.
