About this Event
Join us for an insightful and inspiring panel discussion around the role of communications in disseminating environmental science, educating and informing people about sustainability and conservation; as well as the influence of different forms of media (films, books, social media).
We have four incredible panelists joining us.
- Gillian Burke is a biologist , voiceover artist and natural history television presenter, whom you may recognise from working on Springwatch and Autumnwatch.
- Rada Pandeva is a marine scientist, passionate about ocean literacy; she is founder of Thalassophile Project, which works to make marine science universally accessible.
- Anna Roberts is a senior lecturer in Marine and Natural History Photography; she has produced films on the cultures of African wildlife and now directs short conservation documentaries for NGOs.
- Professor Callum Roberts is a conservationist who works on the impacts of fishing on marine life; he was scientific advisor to the BBC on Blue Planet II and has authored books on ocean change.
We'll talk about communicating science to a broader audience through different media, influencing green behaviour change, and greenwashing and misinformation. The panelists will also speak briefly about career pathways and some general tips about jobs in science communications.
After the discussion there'll be a Q&A, followed by the option to go down to the Stannary Bar for further conversation.
The event is raising money for Another Way, a youth-led environmental education charity founded by then 16 year-old Amy Bray, and empowering young changemakers from across the country to take climate and nature action, as well as making climate and ecological science engaging and accessible.
