Grab a drink and hear from Florida LAKEWATCH Director Gretchen Lescord, PhD, on the impact of volunteering and how monitoring the quality of our water helps manage and understand the diversity of Florida’s aquatic ecosystems.
About the Speaker
Dr. Gretchen Lescord is an assistant professor of applied limnology in the School of Forest, Fisheries, and Geomatics Sciences at the University of Florida. She is also the director of the Florida LAKEWATCH program, one of the largest and longest-running participatory science programs in the world. Dr. Lescord’s research centers on the chemical ecology of lakes and rivers across North America. She has a special interest in contaminants (e.g., mercury and PFAS) and models their accumulation in freshwater fish and the food webs that support them. In Florida, she pairs her expertise in aquatic ecology, analytical chemistry, and participatory science to support and collaborate with the LAKEWATCH volunteers, other UF Faculty, and state agencies to monitor, research, and manage our inland waters. Dr. Lescord also supervises graduate students who work on limnological research around North America.
