December Session: Understanding Vaccine MisinformationWednesday, December 17 | 9:30 am–12:00 pm
The first Science Connections session dives into a timely and important topic: Understanding Vaccine Misinformation. This 2.5-hour experience is designed for adults who want to better understand how vaccines work, why misinformation spreads, and how to confidently navigate health information today.
In this accessible, expert-informed presentation, we’ll explore:
– How different types of vaccines work (e.g., measles vs. COVID-19)
– Why the false autism–vaccine link persists
– How herd immunity really works — and why it matters
– How to identify credible scientific sources
– Strategies for spotting misinformation online
Participants will enjoy a 45-minute presentation, followed by time for questions, discussion, and reflection. Afterward, you’ll have time to explore the Science Centre’s exhibit floor before heading to the Kramer IMAX Theatre for a screening of Superhuman Bodies 3D, chosen to complement the session’s theme.
This session is designed to be thought-provoking, engaging, and confidence-building — perfect for anyone interested in science, health, or critical thinking.
