To celebrate the 13th year of the Volusia Sandhill Ecosystem restoration project and the installation of beautiful new educational signage, join us for beverages (including some of Persimmon Hollow’s local brews), snacks, a short presentation, and live music featuring Thin Film Magnetism while we enjoy a sunset in the Sandhill.
Join us for fellowship and fun, whether you are a longtime supporter of the Volusia Sandhill or first-time visitor!
At 6PM, there will be a brief presentation by Dr. Cindy Bennington, Stetson Biology professor and one of the project's co-founders.
Dr. Bennington and Dr. Karen Cole (director emeritus of the Gillespie Museum) initiated the Volusia Sandhill Ecosystem project in the one-acre vacant field located behind the Rinker Environmental Learning Center in 2011. Over the years, many Stetson faculty, staff, and students have supported the Sandhill through research and restoration activities and we are so grateful for their contributions. We are also appreciative of the many donors who contributed to the new signage (produced by Stephanie Liskey at Sailforth Designs) as well as those in the past who have provided plant material, resources, and time to support the project.
