In what promises to be a fascinating - and possibly controversial - science café to kick off our fourteenth year, PhD researcher Mark Juhan Schuneman examines the current state of knowledge around trance states, whether drug-induced or otherwise, and whether the scientific community is paying sufficient attention to an aspect of human experience that dates back untold millennia in the history of our species.Whether you've dabbled in recreational drugs, had a transformational religious or philosophical awakening, or just gone off into your own world on the dance floor, you probably have had some experience of trance states. This is the opportunity to find out more about those experiences, and perhaps question Mark about them in the Q&A session. Or you may have just read about recent promising therapeutic developments in the use of psychedelics combined with talking therapies.
