Learning to play a musical instrument is a years-long enterprise which brings with it a great deal of efforts but even greater rewards. The training needed varies massively across practices (didactics, styles, cultures) and individuals (personalities, biographies, motivation) and several psychological functions as well as their brain and body underpinnings are shaped over time. In this talk, Professor Brattico will illustrate the most robust findings on the brain and body changes related to music learning and novel results on how such shaping might depend on practice- and person-related aspects. Along with this, she will illustrate how music learning might promote individual and collective wellbeing.
Elvira Brattico is a neuroscientist and Professor at the Center for Music In the Brain at Aarhus University.
