About this Event
A school garden provides an opportunity where students can explore a dynamic learning environment. It provides a highly engaging classroom for students to explore all curriculum areas. This workshop will focus on using garden learning centers as an outdoor classroom management tool as well as to teach curriculum standards and critical thinking skills. The following stations will be featured.
- Weather Stations
- Reading Nook
- Nature Building
- Measurement
- Digging Beds
The workshop will be led by Amy Bowman and Doug Vernon. Both are former teachers and current NC State Extension employees focusing on STEM Education as part of the Plants for Human Health Institute. They have been facilitating professional development for those utilizing the school garden since 2017. A few additional details for this workshop:
- Registration is limited to 20 (minimum of 10).
- Registration will close Feb 5, 2025.
- Bring your own lunch.
- Attendees will receive a School Garden t-shirt and other fun swag.
- Attendees will take home ready-to-use centers.
