We invite school groups to celebrate Black History Month with our Frederick Douglass Living History program Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 9:30 a.m. in the Gaither Auditorium. Students will interact with Frederick Douglass, portrayed by Nathan M. Richardson, as he speaks about his life as an enslaved person, his escape to freedom, and his rise as a great writer, orator, and abolitionist. Douglass will place a strong emphasis on reading and writing, as well as developing a sense of civic responsibility and understanding of the U.S. Constitution. He also will speak on how poets, writers, and speakers of the 19th century used their writing skills to effect change and make the country a more perfect union.
This free program is designed for grades 4-12. Registration is required.
The program is supported by the Friends of the Museum of the Albemarle.
