Rachmaninoff, a master pianist, poured his passion and technical brilliance into his compositions. Simon Trpčeski, a virtuoso in his own right, rises to the challenge of Rachmaninoff’s evocative and demanding First Piano Concerto. In Dobrinka Tabakova’s Orpheus’ Comet, inspired by mythology, the buzzing of bees is woven into a vibrant sonic tapestry, with nods to Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo. Rounding out the program, Music Director Ken-David Masur leads Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade. This mesmerizing suite tells the tale of a resourceful woman whose captivating stories save her life across 1,001 nights.
