Course Description:
This is an intermediate acting class geared towards the performing arts students and practitioners who want to develop and deepen their relationship between the imagination and expression.
You will learn elements of acting technique created Michael Chekhov and use them to tap into the direct relationship between the performer’s “inner” and “outer” being. Over the course of eight weeks you will learn basic elements of the technique such as atmosphere, quality of movement, imaginary centers, pshchological gestures, archetypes and you will have an opportunity to apply them to a partnered scene (working on a monologue of your choice is an option as well). The aim is for you to become more proficient in using your imagination towards an effective characterization, believable relationship and authentic interpretation.
During the course you will be guided towards a genuine and fresh experience in performance and away from self-directed, artificial interpretations.
Requirements/Prerequisites:
Previous acting experience is welcome and appreciated but not a must. Students will be able to apply the exercises according to own level of experience and will be partnered with actors with similar level of experience where possible.
