A space for the LGBTQ+ community (16+) in Glasgow to discuss queer representation in film
About this Event

Do you ever sit down to watch a film and wish there were more characters like you?

Many LGBTQ+ people just don’t feel represented in mainstream film media (TV, cinema, online streaming). When considering other intersecting marginal groups, such as being LGBTQ+ and a person of colour, neurodivergent or disabled, representation drops off even further.

So let's talk about queer representation (including misrepresentation or lack of) in film.

In partnership with Glasgow Film Theatre, we are hosting a facilitated community discussion to hear your views. You'll have the opportunity to discuss what's important to you in what you watch, with a chance to shape the programming of a local independent cinema.

BSL interpretation can be made available

Please get in touch with Eve at [email protected] or 07599 276 189 (Monday to Thursday) if you may be interested in attending and would benefit from BSL.

Who we welcome

Anyone from the LGBTQIA+ community (16+) in Glasgow is welcome to join us. We welcome the entire diversity of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community including non-binary, queer, intersex, asexual people and all identities under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella. This includes those who are questioning or exploring their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Registration

Spaces are limited so we need you to register in advance. The capacity of this event is 60 people to ensure social distancing can be maintained.

Bookings are for 1 person, not households or bubbles. Even if you and a friend or partner share an email address, you must make one booking per person.

If something changes and you can no longer attend the meetup, please let us know as soon as you can so your booking becomes available for someone else.

COVID-19

As of 18th April, all COVID rules and restrictions were lifted in Scotland. However, the virus has not gone away. The Scottish Government is now promoting the use of “COVID sense” to inform how best to protect people. With that in mind, we are continuing to have COVID safety measures in place to reduce risk. Any event may be cancelled or postponed due to unforeseen circumstances or if Scottish Government guidance changes.
