In 2021, the Chinese government announced it had eradicated extreme poverty and declared a new long-term national goal of achieving ‘common prosperity’. In this lecture, Professor Jane Duckett will review China’s socio-economic development trajectory over the last 25 years, with a particular focus on poverty reduction and welfare state expansion.
