Take inspiration from the landscapes of Margery Blackman: Weaving, Life and learn how to create your own woven artwork on a frame. Contemporary weaver Rachel Long will teach you how to weave a landscape of your own. Create a solo piece, or enrol with a friend and work on a larger project together. Spend the day learning from Long in a small group setting, where all materials are provided. As well as your finished weaving, you will be able to take away the frame to continue weaving at home.
Why Join This Workshop?
• Beginner-Friendly: This is your chance to give weaving a go in a supportive environment.
• Small, Intimate Class: With just 8 participants, you’ll enjoy plenty of personal attention in a friendly, relaxed setting.
• The Finished Piece: Create something beautiful with your own hands and take home your woven masterpiece!
Rachel long experiments with the future potentials of a contemporary weaver that explore the elements of form, rhythm, time, space, and materiality. Since completion of a Bachelor of Design with first class Honours majoring in textile design at Massey University in 2015. Long has been developing her textile practice in her studio in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand. Engaging in a studio led practice in Te
Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington has allowed many and varied opportunities to engage with esteemed local and international designers, artists and curators on an expansive and diverse scope of projects.
Long regularly exhibits work in Aotearoa New Zealand and engages with the fashion and film community locally and internationally Her work can currently be seen at Public Record Tamaki Makaurau Auckland.
