At the conclusion of this presentation, students will be able to:
- Understand why business structures exist
- Identify common business structures
- Compare the different business structures and consider their advantages and disadvantages
- Highlight each structure’s liabilities, rights, and limitations
- Determine suitable business structures for different scenarios

About the speaker:
John Crawford grew up in Medford, Oregon and after graduating from high school there, he attended the University of Washington where he received a BA in Economics. Following service in the Navy, he received a JD in law from the University of Oregon. He practiced law in Portland and Astoria for 50 years and retired at the end of 2023. His areas of practice included bankruptcy and creditor’s rights, business transactions and estate planning and probate. He also served as an arbitrator for the Multnomah and Clatsop County Circuit Courts, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and the Arbitration Service of Portland.
He is president of his homeowner’s association and serves on the board of the Columbia Memorial Hospital Foundation.
For outside interests, he golfs, exercises and swims and reads.
