About this Event
Take a motto and say it with stitches on your own favorite garment! In this workshop, you’ll learn the stem and chain embroidery stitch techniques to create a personalized message. Additionally, you'll master the art of transferring designs, purposefully laying them out, and skillfully stitching them onto your chosen fabric.
Don't worry if you're a beginner; this class is designed to ease any fears and leave you feeling empowered and creative. If you are more experienced, your instructor can teach you more advanced stitch techniques too! At the end of the workshop, you'll not only have a beautifully embroidered piece to take home, but also a newfound skill set that allows you to continue creating unique, stitched designs!
Materials for stitching (threads/fibers, embroidery hoop, needle, alphabet template, and practice fabric) will be provided. However, you must bring your own garment whether that be a shirt, jacket, tote bag, or any fabric item you'd like to personalize with embroidery. Make sure it's clean and ready for stitching!
Light refreshments will be served. Space is limited, please register in advance!
Ages 10+. An adult must accompany any attending kids, and may observe at the class for free
About the instructor:
The daughter of a Mexican mother and American father, Robin Schweitzer grew up in the Bronx. After a successful 38-year career in the fashion industry, Robin founded the HOOP in New York City. Born out of her childhood summers in Mexico City stitching alongside her grandmother, mother, aunts and cousins, the HOOP serves as an untethered hangout of curious creatives to fastidiously learn stitching, fiber craft, and life lessons, too.
