Founded more than 40 years ago in Apopka, Florida, the band consists of three original members—Mark Miller (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Gregg “Hobie” Hubbard (keyboards, vocals), and Joe Smyth (drums)—and guitarist Shayne Hill, who joined the group in 2004.
Sawyer Brown shot to fame in 1983 when they appeared on the TV show Star Search and won the grand prize of $100,000 and a recording contract. Since then, the band has been a perennial presence on country radio, releasing 18 studio albums, one live album, and five compilation albums. Three of their albums—The Dirt Road (1992), Outskirts of Town (1993) and Greatest Hits 1990-1995 (1995)—have been certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and the band has charted three No. 1 singles: “Step That Step” (1985), “Some Girls Do” (1992), and “Thank God for You” (1993).
