About this Event
Sawubona is a Zulu greeting that means "I see you." Join us for this special opportunity to connect, see, and seed into Black-led social change in Greater Baltimore. There will be brief presentations from the fellows, a series of round table conversations, followed by lunch and open networking. Please RSVP as seating is limited.
On March 10th, we’re coming together to celebrate and support the inspiring Drs. Elmer and Joanne Martin Social Impact Fellows, who are leading grassroots social change throughout our Baltimore community. Their work touches critical areas like health and wellness, youth empowerment, economic justice, mental health advocacy, creative workforce development, and community transformation.
The fellowship, named in honor of Drs. Elmer and Joanne Martin, celebrates the visionary founders of the National Great Blacks In Wax Museum and their extraordinary legacy. Through their groundbreaking institution, the Martin’s dedicated their lives to education, social justice, and cultural preservation. This fellowship honors their commitment and is designed to support the next generation of Black social entrepreneurs who are working to uplift and empower Baltimore's communities.
Over the past six months, 18 fellows have participated in a transformative program led by Dr. Yanique Redwood (CLLCTIVLY’s Scholar-Practitioner in Residence), in collaboration with Ariel Schwartz (Managing Director of the Center for Social Impact Strategy at the School of Social Policy and Practice at the University of Pennsylvania), and Mama Itihari Touré, EdD (CLLCTIVLY’s Sacred Memory Scholar-in-Residence).
The fellows now have specific requests, and we’re excited to come together and learn how we can support their efforts. From advancing arts entrepreneurship and fostering economic sustainability to supporting local businesses and advocating for mental health and wellness, there are many ways we can contribute to their work in Baltimore.
