Saving the Giants: The Unlikely Birth of Humboldt Redwoods State Park
Growing up in megalith-strewn Kent, England, Barry Evans thought "history" ended in 1066 with the Norman invasion. He was forced to re-think this biased view when he and his wife arrived in Eureka in 2001, and became fascinated with Humboldt's local history--much of it violently intolerant, but some inspiring and hopeful. It's the latter that we'll look at in this illustrated talk on saving at least some of the redwoods for future generations.
Barry is a recovering civil engineer turned astronomy teacher and author. His "Field Notes" column appears every other week in the North Coast Journal, anthologies of which are on sale at the Clarke, along with his latest book, "The New Humbook."
