Rat poisons are supposed to K*ll rodents like rats and mice, but it takes time for them to die, slowing them down and making rodents easy targets for raptors. Raptors can eat thousands of rodents a year, but it may only take one or two poisoned rodents to harm them, and even K*ll them. This is a very common problem for birds-of-prey. These poisons can also hurt humans through consuming the poison, touching it, and inhaling it. Safe alternatives exist for people and wildlife, such as rat sterilization bait that Audubon Society of Rhode Island has been using. We’ve introduced a bill for the second year in a row that would ban these types of poisons and protect wildlife and people.
Join Audubon Society of Rhode Island at LitArts RI to learn about these advocacy efforts and write and workshop letters to legislators in support of saving raptors. Food will be provided.
