About this Event
As you stand on the beaches of western Portugal, staring across the grey Atlantic, the next landfall is America. This windswept, maritime nation has a long tradition of looking beyond the horizon while defending its own identity from its larger Spanish neighbour – not unlike ourselves. Thankfully, instead of replanting with chardonnay and merlot in the 1990s, Portugal stuck to Touriga Franca, Baga, Alvarinho, and a host of unique indigenous grapes. Emerging into the provenance-led noughties, no country in Europe represents better value and broader choice than Portugal, ranging from zesty whites to strapping reds. All aboard our barca velha as we travel from the Atlantic to the Spanish border to uncover Portugal's vinous pleasures.
Our shop tastings start at 7.30pm and run for approximately one-and-a-half to two hours. We will taste 6-8 wines on a theme, and bread, cheese and charcuterie is provided to match with the wines. Due to the communal nature of the tasting, we are unable to cater for dietary requirements.
