JP Jitterbugs is proud to present a series of workshops by world-leading lindy hop, authentic jazz, and tap dance instructor Mariel Gastiarena, hailing from Buenos Aires, Argentina.On Saturday February 15, Mariel will offer a series of three workshops at Allston Abbey, as part of the Mariel Gastiarena Weekend of Lindy Hop and Music.

[12-1pm] Authentic Jazz (all levels) - Rhythmic layers and body isolations
[1:30pm-3pm] Lindy hop (int) - Partnered phrasing: Telling musical stories together
[3:30pm-5pm] Lindy Hop (int/adv) - Dancing in motion: Connection and speed changes
Sign up for any combination (the two lindy hop workshops are designed to pair well together even though one is a bit more challenging than the other).

- dance shoes to enjoy and protect the beautiful wood floor

- snacks if you like but please take care of your own trash
- layers, in case it is chilly in the beautiful old church* (opportunity to show off your tweed!)
*The Allston Abbey is an all-volunteer community venue for arts, activism, and spirituality. The church building dates to 1912, and the pristine wood floor is original. (The adjacent building was built in 1895, and the church building was added later.)
It is right off the Green line, and street parking is not a problem.
*** More about Mariel Gastiarena ***
Mariel started dancing Lindy Hop in 2004, when she was 14. Since that time she dedicated herself to dance Lindy Hop, Authentic Jazz and Tap, learning at the same time other different dance styles and incorporating different elements that defined her personal style.
She also studied music at the Superior Conservatory Manuel de Falla and later on she focused her training in swing music, learning piano, clarinet, drums and singing. Her musical training is reflected in her highly rhythmic dancing style, which has made her an expert in teaching various aspects of music theory applied to Swing dance. She has her own project as a dancer and singer with Swing City House Band.
Mariel is co-founder and co-director of Swing City, the first Lindy Hop, Authentic Jazz and Tap school in Argentina and Swing City Jazz Club. Also, she is co-producer of CA.PO.S, (the Buenos Aires Swing Dance Championships) and ILHC Latinamerica.
Mariel teaches regular classes in Swing City and workshops in several countries around the world, and she is one of the main well known dancers in South America.
