Join us to taste some wines made of less known grapes from well known regions of France!
About this Event

Welcome back to our Saturday Tasting Series! This week we will be yet again pouring some wines at the shop starting at around 2:30pm. Expect a laid back environment, with some interesting insights about both wines being shared by Otis, Julie, and Miles. We will have wine open until around 6pm, so come have a glass, chat with us, and maybe even walk out with new friends and a bottle of something for yourself!

This week we are pouring two French wines from well-known regions, made out of grapes that are not what you would expect out of said regions!

$37.99/bottle ($34.19 with case discount)

The 2023 Hubert Lignier Bourgogne Aligoté "Aux Poirelots" is a striking example of Burgundy’s reimagined relationship with its second white grape. Sourced from a 0.4-hectare parcel of vines planted in 1944 in Gevrey-Chambertin, this wine reflects the potential of old-vine Aligoté to express terroir with precision and depth. Vinified and aged in stainless steel on fine lees, it showcases a taut, mineral-driven character that avoids the overcropped simplicity once associated with the variety. Domaine Hubert Lignier’s organic viticulture and minimal intervention highlight the purity of the fruit and the unique gravelly soils of its origins, offering a refined and authentic expression of Aligoté’s revival in Burgundy.

$36.99/bottle ($33.29 with case discount)

The 2021 Domaine de la Barthassade "Les Ouvrées" is a red blend from the Terrasses du Larzac AOC in the Languedoc region of southern France. Crafted from Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Grenache, this wine reflects the rugged terroir of the foothills of Larzac, where rocky soils and cool nights contribute to its refined character. Guillaume and Hélène Baron, the winemakers, employ biodynamic farming and use whole-cluster fermentation as well aging in concrete eggs to highlight the purity and complexity of the fruit. As part of a young appellation known for producing top-tier wines, "Les Ouvrées" shows that southern Rhone style wines can be made well in other parts of France.
