What do you do when the music slows down but it’s not *quite* saying blues to you? Why do some moves feel amazing when you do them at fast tempos but seem to, maybe, drag a little at slower ones? The way you move and balance (or counter-balance!), and what moves you decide to lead or follow, can change with the tempo, affecting how you connect to your partner and the music. This workshop will help you explore how to tackle a different tempo and better match to the music and your partner. After the workshop, hang out with us as we grab dinner together nearby!
We’ll also be holding a raffle with a prize of a QCS workshop, redeemable anytime in 2025, to keep you dancing along in the new year!
Cost: $25 in advance/college students // $30 day of event
Venmo: @queencityswingdance
Instructors: Meghan Zuelke and Daniel Verdon
Meghan Zuelke: Meghan began swing dancing in 2016 as part of the University of Cincinnati Hepcats club. She quickly fell in love with the connections created through swing dancing—with the music, with the partners on the dance floor, and with the community off the floor. While she still calls Cincinnati her home scene, she loves traveling to other scenes to experience different styles and mixes of music. Meghan began DJing in 2019 and her favorite songs are those with playful rhythms, rich vocals, and a little sass.
Daniel Verdon: Daniel fell in love with partner dancing over a decade ago, mesmerized by the healing power of dance. The more time he spent on the dance floor, the greater his curiosity grew about the music, movement, and magic that embodies swing music. As a teacher, Daniel is able to break down complex movements into simple steps, all while encouraging his students to feel the connection of their partner, the music, and space around them. He is a regular instructor, dj, and emcee for several scenes in the tri-state area and is always looking to share the joy of dance with new friends.
