For the first century of Newark’s history, the town ended at New London Road. But as the town began to grow faster after the Civil War, Newark’s elites began to view “the road to Nottingham” as a tranquil haven within walking distance of their business enterprises, while the neighbors began to call it “Quality Hill.” Join Dr. Jim Jones on a walk along Dallam Road, Old Oak Lane and West Main Street to learn about the people who shaped Newark in the early twentieth century.
