Ever wondered what that plant is called? Become a biodiversity detective and uncover the secret using DNA barcoding! In this hands-on lab, you’ll extract DNA from mystery plant samples and then simulate DNA sequencing by building colorful DNA barcodes out of LEGO bricks.
Participants will:
- learn how DNA barcoding is used to identify living things;
- isolate DNA that will be sequenced;
- build “DNA Barcodes” out of LEGOs; and
- simulate DNA sequencing using a LEGO sequencer.
Ages 14-18, no chaperone required.
