Join us on Saturday, February 7th for an exploration of rocks and minerals. In this Saturday Club you'll learn which mineral will fizz if you drop acid on it and what kind of rock sticks to a magnet. "How do you tell fool’s gold from the real thing, asks Russell Hawley, Tate Education Specialist. "The answers to this question and many more is the subject of our next Saturday Club. In this session we learn the intrinsic properties that characterize the different kinds of minerals, and then practice using mineral test kits to tell them apart. Then we’ll learn to identify different kinds of rocks, especially the ones common in the Casper area. Finally, the proper way to label, store and display rock and mineral specimens will be covered so that students can start rock and mineral collections of their own!"Saturday Club is free and open to children ages 7-14. The Tate Geological Museum is located at the southern end of the Casper College campus; look for the life-size T. rex bronze near the Tate or call the museum at 307-268-2447.
