Saturday Arts Social series for our 60+ community In this session, Lizanne Knights will guide participants will explore journaling as a mindful self-care practice. Through guided prompts and reflective writing, they will learn how to have a meaningful inner dialogue and bring subconscious thoughts to the surface. The workshop encourages experimenting with different forms of expression—words, symbols, images—and frameworks such as theme-based writing and emotional release. Whether you’re a seasoned journaler or completely new to the practice, this session offers a safe, creative space to connect with yourself and start crafting a more intentional path forward.
About your facilitator: Lizanne has always been fascinated by what makes us humans tick . This interest guided her educational choices to study Psychology at a post graduate level and subsequently obtain a diploma in Expressive Arts and Groupwork. Her early career was as a management consultant, focussing on psychometric assessment and professional development, whilst she has been engaged with using the Expressive Arts for free expression and healing over the last decade. As she raised her family, Lizanne shifted her focus towards her own life and she rediscovered journaling as a means of self expression and meaning making. She has used journalling extensively as a way to reflect on her past and current life, record experiences and reframe her perspective. She has found the practice meets her exactly where she is at any given moment and largely without self judgement. She loves being surprised by what emerges onto the page and values the opportunity that journalling can provide for her to tap into her own wisdom. Her expression is predominately in words but patterns, drawings and squiggles also suffice at times. Lizanne lives in Arrowtown and has called the Whakatipu home for the last 6 years. She has previously lived in Australia, the UK and Southern Africa.
