SatJaDham (SJD - pronounced "sutt-ja-tumm"), a Lao Literary Project, was founded on April 11, 1995.
The mission of the SatJaDham Lao Literary Project was to provide a platform for Lao American and other diaspora voices to share their stories in their own words after the end of the war in 1975. It aimed to contribute to the wealth of Lao literature and introduce new and diverse perspectives from overseas Lao individuals.
Between 1995 and 2001, SatJaDham organized 7 national conferences and published five anthologies of Lao American writings. While the network is generally considered inactive by many, its founders and members remain involved in community building through organizations such as the Lao Heritage Foundation, the Center for Lao Studies, and the Laotian American National Alliance.
- The first in-person conference was hosted by students at Fresno State University in 1996.
- The second conference was hosted in Elgin, Illinois, at the Gail Borden Public Library in 1997.
- The third conference was hosted by Lao students at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, in 1998.
- The fourth conference took place at George Mason University in the Washington DC metropolitan area in 1999.
- The fifth conference took place in San Diego, organized by students from San Diego State University and UC San Diego in 2000.
- The sixth conference was organized by students at the University of Minnesota in 2001.
- The seventh and last conference was in the San Francisco Bay Area at Contra Costa College in San Pablo, California, in 2002.
