About this Event
World Space Week (4 – 10 Oct) is an international celebration of science and technology and their contribution to the betterment of the human condition. The mission is to strengthen the link between space and society through outreach and public awareness. This year’s theme is “Space and Sustainability.” It allows WSW to address sustainability from two angles: (1) how space benefits society and contributes to sustainable development on Earth and (2) what are the challenges ahead of us to keep space activities and the space environment safe and sustainable.
The Topic of The Lecture
Satellite technologies do not only connect people in a globalized world, but they are also drastically contributing to global socio-economic development. Space-based applications have played a critical role in making the world more secure and combatting humanity's most challenging problems. Satellite technologies have been employed to enable education, manage agricultural activities, preserve the environment, protect biodiversity, manage the weather, provide telemedicine services, and respond to disasters. “Satellite Technology Ensuring Sustainability on Earth” lecture will present the sustainable development concept to understand "sustainability" before addressing the use of satellite technologies and their various applications in achieving sustainability. The lecture will also present some of the applications used in combatting global challenges and emphasize the case of satellite technologies deployment in managing disasters.
