In this new Sewing workshop, we guide you through a beginner Sewing workshop to learn how to use a sewing machine for projects. This class is longer and covers more ground than our Sewing 101 class, it's a great refresher or newbie class.Learn basic sewing skills including: how to cut fabric, how to use a simple pattern, how to perform a few different stitches, creating gussets & hems, installing a zipper and basic bag construction. You will also learn how to operate a basic sewing machine.
You will create several upcycled fabric projects including a cross body bag/ fanny pack and a zipper pouch. With this project, you will gain a solid foundation of machine sewing. You may not be ready to win Project Runway quite yet, but at least you’ll be able to sew that ripped pillow on your couch, hem your pants. after taking this class. Once you learn the basics, we can recommend some great local spots for more advanced workshops.
Class size is limited to 5 people so you can spread out for social distance and also get some one on one attention as needed.
Class rules/ details. Classes are for adults 18 & over, please email us for permission for any younger students. Cancellations must be made 72hrs in advance. If after the 72hr mark- we can try to replace your spot and issue a gift certificate if we are able to replace your spot. You are welcome to gift or transfer your ticket if you cant attend. In cases of snow or extreme weather, we do contact students by email and text to reschedule class.
Classes take place at our Wilkinsburg Studio at 321 Pennwood Ave 15221 across from the busway and train tracks, down the right side of the bold colored building. Plenty of parking along Pennwood Ave. Please see photos on our class page for reference. Classes are not air conditioned but are in a cool warehouse, so dress comfortable for the weather. Snacks and refreshments are welcome:) Have fun!
