The Saskatchewan Writers’ Guild and the Pink Cadillac & T-Bird Lounge are pleased to present an in-person event titled ‘Saskatoon’s Reader’s Corner’, an evening to help celebrate by bringing people together, to share their stories, fiction or non-fiction, through reading from their work. We believe these stories bring the smiles, tears, laughter, and the celebration of sharing. Guests include local writers: Michael Afenfia, Karin Martel, Tonia Laird, Susanne Gauthier & Mark Thunderchild! Family and Friends are invited to come enjoy this beautiful evening of fun!

Food and drinks are available for purchase.

This event is free and open to the public.

Presenters:
Michael Afenfia is a storyteller and multi genre writer. His bestseller The Mechanics of Yenagoa is full of humour and wit. He has written a Sports fiction novel called Don’t Die on Wednesday and his other novels are full of plot twists. He is currently working on a children’s book called The Twins that saved Izonbele and a short story and poetry collection. His sixth novel, Leave my Bones in Saskatoon was long listed for the 2023 ANA Chinua Achebe prize. Don’t Die on Wednesday and Rain Can Never Know made the short-list 2015 and 2022 respectively.
When he is not writing, Michael spends his time mentoring young creatives. At other times he can be found watching television, listening to music or reading

Karin Martel is the author of her memoir Shop Class Hall Pass: Facing the Buried Trauma of Sexual Assault which was short-listed for the Mary Scorer Award for Best Book by a Manitoba Publisher. She has written for multiple documentary series and her non-fiction has been published in Spring Magazine. She is currently working towards a master's certificate in creative writing through Humber College. She lives in Saskatoon with her partner, Jeff and is a Special Constable with the Saskatoon Police Service.

Tonia Laird is a Métis writer from Treaty 6 territory. Her work is included in multiple publications including literary magazines, fantasy and comic book anthologies, and AAA video games Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age: Inquisition, the mobile game, Everlove: Rose, and the interactive novel, Poster Girl. Her first novel, Blade of Lament, is coming out summer 2025. Tonia works at Thought Pennies Entertainment on an unannounced community-driven Dark Fantasy RPG as their Lorekeeper and world-builder.

Susanne Gauthier grew up in Toronto, but now happily resides in the relative peace and quiet of Saskatoon with her husband and two teenage children. Sue is known for her frankness and spirit. She believes everyone has a beautiful truth that if understood, would be universally praised and cherished. She believes in offering people a safe space to be authentic. In writing, Sue has a passion for connecting the dots between her subjects’ deepest better motivations and their highest truths. Although she has written many articles and small pieces for publication, Sue is new to the book publishing world. Rebuilding a Brick Wall is Sue’s first published work of this kind, but she hopes it won’t be her last. Mark Thunderchild is a registered member of Thunderchild First Nation and had moved at the age of 4 years old. He and his family lived in various communities across Canada such as; Waterhen lake SK, Igloolik NU, Canora SK, Handle SK and Beauval SK. He was exposed to the diversity Canada had/has to offer. Mark and his partner, Amanda have 3 children. Amanda who is also the illustrator of his new book, Kohkum’s Kitchen.
