Mark your calendars for an evening at the Broadway Theatre on Wednesday, November 13th featuring the Saskatoon Community Bands.The first half of the program will feature the Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Nick Fanner. Majestic Vistas is a descriptive musical narrative as we paint pictures not with paint, but with sound, taking the listener to the amazing Mt. Everest in the Himalayas, across the Pacific Ocean to visit one of the best-known displays of grandeur, Mount Fiji, and relaxing with a simple stroll As I Walked Through the Meadow. In keeping with the theme of relaxing vistas, the program will close with a promenade through the Austrian Alps as we relive the Sound of Music.
Following intermission, the stage will belong to the Jazz Band under the direction of Doug Gilmour. This 40-piece group is unique in the sense of its non-traditional instrumentation including flutes, clarinets & oboes along with the standard fare of saxophones, trumpets, trombones and of course a rhythm section. Repertoire for this concert will delve into a broad range of styles and tempos, both familiar and contemporary.
